Using varying number of par cans

Hi everyone,
I am pretty new with Freestyler, but am enjoying it so far. I am a mobile DJ and plan to use this to control uplighting par can fixtures. So far, I have been able to add my fixtures in the creator and have been able to make a few very basic sequences with a few par cans. At my events, I may be using between 4-16 par cans. I would just like to be able to perform some effects with them in chain (fades, cascades, etc).Of course, every venue is different and often times I won't be able to tell how many I am going to want to use until I get there.
Because of that, I was wondering if it is possible to pre-program sequences that will work whether I decide to use 4, 8, 12, 16 etc. Or does every possible scenario need to be programmed on its own? Thank you in advance for your help.
