Looking for a chap interface to play with a very simple setup. 4 generics and 6 LED apr64. Mainly to evaluate the software before getting a more expensive interface for a small community venue and then use it to experiment with stuff in my studio.

Was thinking of giving http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-to-DMX-In ... 1886493047? a go. Says it works with freestyler but not short what the setup should be. There is another listing of what looks like same one (from Hong Kong) at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Satge-Lightin ... 4ae417d529 and it looks like it may be uDMX.

Personally I would steer well clear of the cheap interfaces that use the computer to generate the timings, as computers and drivers update further down the line the dmx timing can be affected, and the inconsistent results may not give a good representation for you to evaluate.

If you want to evaluate / see your creation you can do it virtually with the included magic 3d easy view (no purchases needed). Or there are some good quality interfaces such as the dmxking pro and micro which can be bought for much less money than the usual enttec ones and do a great job since the timing and dmx signal is created inside the unit, and therefore not relying on your PC for timing accuracy and consistency.

OK, had a look round. The DMXKing (£105, http://advancedeventdesigns.com/shopaed ... uct_id=113) ones are more expensive than the enttec (£44, http://www.shocksolutions.co.uk/sales/d ... ace-detail). So the DMXKing Micro seems like the one to go for (you are saying it generates its own timing, it looks just like the cheap ones). Cant find it in the UK. Tried to order it from there site and it tried to charge $1000 for shipping (have emailed them, guess there is a problem with there site).

The enttec 'open' you listed there is like those others that don't generate the timings (browse this forum and I'm sure you will find examples of people having problems with it)

I have the micro (in the uk) so they do sell it here, I paid about £40 plus postage a year or so ago.

It's available on that same site you listed, http://advancedeventdesigns.com/shopaed ... uct_id=112
The fact that is does its own timings is the first listed feature - it's that important that they highlighted it.
