Recording Movement - Loss of Panel Control

I already have my movers setup in Sub Masters, with Movement, Gobo, Color, etc... I used the built-in pattern generator to store those to sequences.
I was at a show where I wanted to record a new sequence, where I grab each mover and place it where I need it within the room to light specific things, so that I could call it up from my Sub Master anytime I needed it.
So I opened up the Sequence window for recording, but when I went to the movement panel, I could not move the ball. For some reason, when the sequence window is open for recording, it disables the movement. How am I suppose to record a new movement sequence, if I cannot move the lights into position ??
In retrospect, I did not try moving the pan and tilt channels, I only tried the ball in the movement panel. I am sure many people have done this before, you fire up your movers, record new sequence, and move your lights into place and save.
Do I have this backwards ?? Should I move my lights into place first, then open up the sequence editor, record, and simply change the pan and tilt channels to SNAP from OFF, without moving the position ?? Still, hoping I can do it the other way around.
Thanks
