Hi,

I'm learning and testing freestyler and I want to end the cues which are running to make a break effect.

This is the first time I use that kind of software...

Thanks

You could probably do it with an override button, which acts like a switch. What I tended to do was blackout out and let it build then turned it off again, so everything come back in on the beat which was good for making effects.

But whilst it's blackout and the beat is building I'd mixed things up a little bit, so I could make different effects or if I knew the song I'd bring the strobe in and then the rest of the lights kind of thing.

It's may be a good idea. I have to try this. I have't work with groups. So I have the keyboard shortcut "blackout group n" it may be just what I need... But can I have fifferent kind of light and effects in one group ?
What are the advandages and inconveniant using groups ?

I find groups useful at times and not at others because it all depends on what you are doing. I find it's easier for programming purposes, but if you are trying to create single effects then it can be annoying. But what I tend to do is make so many different groups of what I might need for the event, then program them as groups and as single fixtures. Then I know I have more than enough to handle the event without any trouble, it's better I find to do this so you know you've got everything roughly covered.

Then you can always use this as a starting point for your next show. I have found that I've had to do it live sometimes if I've forgot to program solo spotlights and there's a guitar solo where you want the effect to be shown, but it's not hard to do if you are focused.

Ok I see.
On stage, I use 2 simple 24 chanels controlers juste for Trad PAR cans. But this is for live music.
Here I have to use freestyler for MAC 300, laser and strob. I have just to make sequences with different colors and follow the music to creat a "show" on the dancefloor. This is wy a need sometime to make a break and restart with an other type of effect.
I tested that : for each sequence (for MAC 300) , I make a toggle keyboard shortcut. So I have a sequence, without light and no movement. I have the F1 button for Blackout.
When I want a blackout, I press the F1, then the no light button, and stop the first sequence. I toggle F1 and start with a new sequence. I think I will not use this no more than 3 or 4 time during the show. This is the best way I find. The thing is that I must remembre the sequence to stop if I go to the bar with a wireless keyboard ;)

I just tested something... I don't need Blackout ! Juste a sequence to shut the light is needed. So this is like if you change the color of a MAC. in that case you have no light. You have just to stop the first sequence and start an other one when you want. It is not the best but it works...
