Hold/Release override or midi

HI... did some forum/wiki digging but can't seem to find a solution to what I want to do - so maybe others have figured it out.
I'd like to create a 2 step "override" type sequence such as an audience blinder + fade out or full on strobe + all white blast but control these two step sequences from one button; ON (plays step one - as long as you hold), OFF (advances to 2nd step).
Right now I'm using overrides (holding for an all-strobe or blast) for however long, then quickly pressing another override, then quickly doing a master fade out for some big-ending songs. Other times I like doing a blinder, but with LED it's on or off... there's not a nice candle fade like the halogen blinders. I'm trying to reproduce that.
I'm thinking MIDI may be the answer - if I can control a 2-step sequence or 2 - one-step sequences by assigning one to the ON event and one to the OFF event).
Possible?
Yes, I'm aware of GoMonkey but there's absolutely no documentation (which is a shame) and it's very limiting as to where cues are stored
