Has anyone had problems running the latest version FS in Windows XP?

I have loaded it on 4 different machines running XP....one seems to work fine. The other 3 seemed to install fine. When trying to run FS on those 3 machines, it gets 3/4 through the loading progress bar then crashed the machine....I mean total complete reboot. One of those 3 machines was a brand new fresh install of Win XP so it was totally clean.....and it still crashed. I don't get it. The old FS 2.95f will run fine on those same machines.

Since no one has responded to this post, I guess I'm the only one with the problem. The only thing I have discovered, while continuing to play with the new version, is that it will run on a Duron 900 with XP and it will run on an AMD 2400+ with XP, no problems. I cannot get it to run on a Pentium 3 or Pentium 2 speed machine with Windows 2000 or XP. That's a real downer as I have a number of Pentium 2 machines that work great for dedicated lighting computers that run FS version 2.95f perfectly. I guess those machines are stuck with 2.95.

Maybe a system requirements should be posted for FS?

Nope. You're not the only one. Installed on a Compaq Armada M700 (P3, 700MHz) with W2K fully updated. It ran 2.95H fine. Now with 2.96j I encountered the same problems you described. Now I hope I have 2.95 stored somewhere.
(BTW: I havent searched the forum yet for solutions)

Version i & j both would not run on my older machines....2.95f runs just great. I searched for a copy of 2.96h, but could not find it.

I have the same problem. Running it on a low spec Toshiba tecra 8000 with 256 Ram and a PII, windows 2000 SP4: it either loads for hours and never complete, or crashes to a blue screen and autoreboot.
I have no problem with previous versions of FS, re-installed them yesterday and they work fine. But still unable to have the latest one work.

WOW! I'm running a Tecra 8000 400mhz laptop too! That's "old school". 2.96J runs fantastic on it. HOWEVER.... my laptop is suddenly just "shutting off" by itself. I don't know if it has anything to do with the new version or not. And... it happens when I'm not even running Freestyler. But, it only started happening AFTER I installed 2.96J.

I love Freestyler! (Except for the cues that lock up). But, that could be the wiring I use. I use standard XLR cables and not DMX cables.

Freestyler and Tecra don't get along well ? Previous versions worked fine with it. I don't know what difference is making this problem. I hope it's not the "transparency", long-awaited function for me.
It would be interresting to have other users report if they encounter that ...

Guys, It is probably because you do not have the "Dot Net Framework" installed. Freestyler seems to be very dependant on it! Download and install version 2.0 from microsoft.

The problem is caused by the transparancy function (not available on Win2k and can be disabled on win xp).
Currently we are testing this issue and we will try to upload a new beta asap.

I installed the dotnet framework, (after an update of windows installer 3.1) and still the same problem.

Raph, do you think transparancy will be available one day or another in win2k ? That's the greatest enhancement I was waiting for...

It's not a .NET framework issue, the problem is caused by the used transparancy function in Fs that's not compatible with W2k.
The bug will be fixed in the next release but transparancy won't be available in W2K.

I'm having this same problem. I installed the newest version of freestyler on to my Lenovo (IBM) T41 Thinkpad.

When I go to run the program, screen goes blue, and restarts. Once it reboots, it tells me that Windows had encountered a serious error. I loved Freestyler on my desktop, but I have to get it on this laptop.

I can't take my desktop on the road with me. Does anyone have a sure shot solution?

I have plenty of free memory. I don't see why its doing this. Please Help!!!!

I de-installed the 2.96 and reinstalled a previous version, but it kept the "fan" founctions.. funny.
Do you think the transparency function will be one day available to win2k users ? that's the most interresting thing for me lacking in freestyler.

Like Vejita30 I encountered the same problem: Once FS2.96j has been installed on a W2K-machine, removing and installing an older version (like 2.95H) won't resolve the problem. Something remains of the newer version that screws up Windows. Because FS is the only prog that runs on that laptop I re-installed W2K and FS2.95H is working like before. It's a back-up PC (I've got 2.96j running on a XP-PC) so it was not a hot issue for me, but maybe someone is helped with this.

I'm still having the same issue having upgraded to J on a win2k laptop. Doesn't get past the initial splash screen, and if you go to task manager, you get the blue screen of death, or you can wait for an hour with the fans and processor running at max, and it STILL doesn't load

Any more thoughts guys ?

Hey Raph, have you had a chance to look into the transparency issue ? Looks like the latest version is dated before your post above, so is there a temporary workaround we should be using in the meantime ?

I'm upgrading to XP today as I cant get FS to be happy on my laptop, but scared I'm going to have issues like I did running 2.96J on w2k...

make sure u have all latest service packs and u shouldn't have any issues....

WOOHOO ! Upgraded to XP, and FS works and loads very quickly !

BUT, although I followed the botch for installing 3d, it's not loading... Just looking through the many related threads here for an answer, and yes Ihave copied mevp.dll back in over the 3d one

Any thoughts chaps ?

Installed 2.95H, this worked alone but wouldn't work with latest version of 3d no matter what I did

Installed 2.96J, this worked, but again would not load latest version of 3d

Couldn't find old version of 3d installer

Copied the whole freestyler folder from my working desktop containing 2.96J and old version of 3d (mar 20) onto the laptop, so using existing laptop registrations etc.

IT WORKS ! Why all this faffing about was needed is way beyond me, but I can now set up all my lights again and get back in touch with my favourite lighting application.

If anyone has the March 20th version of 3D, I think it wouold be a good idea to post it here somewhere, and I'd certainly like a copy as a back up

it may be illegal to poost that as its sunlites not ours... and it also sounds like it's a sunlite problem not ours... maybe raph will logon soon with an update!
