Sound 2 Light prompts overrides - Newbie confused

Please forgive me if this has been answered in many ways, I have trolled through the forum, but am still stuck.
I can get DMX400 working fine, and have a number of working sequences that I can transition through.
BUT.. when I start Sound to Light, I get that annoying Blue triangle with an exclamation mark that indicates an override, but override to what? I just want a scene change in DMX400 to the next colour step in the sequence.
Instead all my lights go off until I hit and Release All and Disable buttons, after I have killed S2L.
I am clearly missing some part of the logic, but I am yet to get my step changes to be timed to every 2nd or 4th Beat from the music. S2L is working well on sending the beat.
Is what I am trying to do impossible? Can S2L be used to step between scenes in a chase sequence?
Have I just got the logic all wrong or the wrong version of the software?
I am using FreeStyler 3.5.5 Sound to Light 1.01.11, with ENTTEC OpenDMX USB, running on Windows 7 64bit with Intel i7 930 with 12Gb RAM. Sound is coming into input slot from remote Traktor setup on seperate PC. Apart from the S2l issue, I have lights working as expected (except Matrix LED 7871) as I can't get that unit's inbuilt chases sorted in Fixture Creator. I do struggle when switching from DMX400 running to running sequences and back again. Some lights do not work as expected for a while.
