Differentiating speeds

Hi All,

Ok. So, I have a bunch of PAR's and a few moving heads (yokes.) Often, I like to make the PAR's run through a sequence at a fast speed (say, every beat.) But, when I do that, the yokes aren't capable of moving fast enough to do their full stroke, so they end up basically "shaking." I have a midi controller, and have knobs available, so I'd like to use one of those knobs to separately control the speed that the yokes move independent of the "Tap."

All of my current shows run exclusively with Cuelists and Overrides, but I'm thinking that Submasters could be the solution...I'm just not sure how to get started, and not sure how Submasters and Cuelists are going to get along. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions?

Set the sequences you don't want to be affected by the Tap button to have "React to Tap/Manual Trigger" OFF (it's the little finger-on-a-button symbol, 2nd from last on the sequence controls).

Set the Master Speed to 100% (Normal) and then set the sequences above to the speed you want them to run at at 100% Master Speed.
*** Now, here I'm not entirely sure whether the Master Speed will still affect them while you have a Tap going, as I don't use Tap all that much, usually use a combo of Master speed and Sequence Speeds, with MIDI controls for each of them (Behring. Rotary Controller).
*** That said, if it *does* work, you could set your sequences to 50%, then you'd have a range of control of it with the Master by going from 0.10 up to 5 times that speed (where your fixtures would again probably not keep up), but at 200% they'd run at your "normal" speed.

Save the Cue, it will save all of your speed settings (of the sequences, not Master) and tap reaction settings.

*** Save it as a second version if you like the way your current one works in other ways. (I am finding I have to create at least two versions of each Cue depending on how I want to use it - not necessarily a bad thing, just more to keep track of.)

As to Submasters n Cuelists, I'm still working that out, but currently most of my Cues don't go past the 15 sequences count, I am finding I can use submaster Cuelists on the last 5 Submasters for my laser/moving stuff, and keep the majority of my current LED Cues still running in the lower 15 sequnce slots (subject to the various limitations of also using the Cue Buttons and Overrides - Cue buttons will sometimes/often negate the top 5 slots resulting in a visit back to the submaster controls...)

hi

the submaster are great to use IF your allways at your lightingdesk.

Cuelist and Submasters..

as to devolper told me.
IF you press a Cuelistbutton it will override the submasters (so all Running Seq on the SM are stopped)
BUT IF you have the cuelistbutton Running and run Run a Seq on the Submaster the cuelistbutton will stay actif.. (so cuelist and submaster are running at the same time.)

so to keep it easy:
From submaster to Cuelist, Cuelist will override the submasters.
From Cuelist to Submaster, Both will run.

BUT you need to separte the 20 PLaybacks..
so 1-10 For cuelist and 11 - 20 for Submasters.
or 1-5 for cuelist and 6-20 for submasters.
or 1-15 for cuelist and 16-20 for submasters..


and for the differnt speeds..
as jdmyers says you can Enable and Disable "React to tap/manual tap"
for the Disabled seq you can use the Speed sliders, Master and the separte ones.
for the Enabled Seq you can use the Speed sliders and Tap/Manual tap..

OK. So, it boils down to, I should set my moving-head sequences to not react to tap/manual trigger, and continue to have my pars react to tap/manual trigger. Then, in the external control, pick a knob to set the master speed and the heads will move at the master speed, but the pars will move at the tap speed. That should work. I'll let you know.
