Hi All,
I have had a look at
http://www.freestylersupport.com/wiki/sound_2_light.
I would like if possible to set up my rig to operate S2L but I am unsure how to do it. I understand the software picks up the beat from a soundcard however how do I do this if I want the lights to operate in S2L mode therefore nothing going through the soundcard.
As usual, all help much appreciated.

Using Sound 2 Light makes no sense if you have no sound.
So I don't understand what you are asking, or I misunderstood all of your post.
Please rewrite and try to make clear what it is what you want.

If I have a live setup I will not have the sound via a soundcard on a PC. My question is how do I introduce S2L for a live setup.....???? Happy to provide more info if you can be a little more explicit........ perhaps me too.

All my fixtures have a sound to light option too,but can this be triggered via DMX and FS....??

Ok, it normally works like this. You create a sequence with a number of steps. You then connect a microphone to your laptop and configure S2L to use it as the input source. S2L identifies the beat in the music and then triggers the next step in the sequence.
Alternatively, you may have a direct feed from the audio mixing desk. In that case you would connect the laptop and mixing desk via an external sound card of some sort. S2L will once again identify the beat and then trigger the next step in the sequence.
A lot of fixtures have their own built in microphone and sound to light function for stand alone use (ie no DMX lighting desk). Some DMX fixtures will allow you to turn on the inbuilt sound to light function by sending the correct DMX value on a particular channel (and not having to use the FS S2L function).
Hope this helps.
