Hello,

I am trying to get my Scorpion lasers (Storm RGX & Storm FX) to work with the main black out button in Freestyler. I have tried several fixture files from the forum with no success. Has anyone had luck with making a profile for these laser that will respond to blackout?

I've had the same problem and found the answer by searching in the forum. In FreeStyler blackout depends on your fixture channel set-up. FreeStyler apparently enforces Blackout according to the following (the post on the forum actually had RGB last, but trial and error proved it to be wrong):
*) If the fixture has RGB channels, then those will be set to minimum (0) when Blackout is enabled
*) If the fixture does not have RGB channels, but has a shutter, then the shutter is closed when Blackout is enabled
*) If the fixture does not have RGB channels or a shutter, but does have an intensity channel, then the intensity will be set to minimum when Blackout is enabled

I have similar lasers (Chauvet Scorpion BLU, GBC, RBM & RGY as well as KAM iLink Blue, GBC, RBP & RGY), but the different models work differently. You’ll have to confirm in your manual. You’ll have to make use of Fixture Creator to create or update your fixture. For example: On one of my lasers, channel 3 is the colour channel, but also with blackout active when the value of channel 3 is between 0 and 24. In this case I’ve set the 1st colorch. to “3” as well as the Shutter ch. to “3” without any value captured in the open box and with “0” captured in the closed box (Shutter ch.). When Blackout is enabled, the laser’s channel 3 is set to “0” which effectively blacks out the laser; when blackout is disabled again, the value of channel 3 is restored to its previous value (in this case the previously selected colour).

On another one of my lasers the “Control Mode” channel, channel 1 in this case, blacks out the laser if it has a value of between 0 and 63. In this case I’ve set the Shutter ch. to ”1”, again without any value captured in the open box and with “0” captured in the closed box.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the fixture files bundled with FreeStyler are either incomplete, faulty or lacking features. I’ve decided to create my own fixtures using Fixture Creator, because then I know everything is working as it is supposed to. I would recommend creating your own fixtures too.
