Will this work?????

Post by djlarry502 »

I bought a usb-485 adapter off ebay. I was told by a friend it could be used with Freestyler as a DMX controller. But im unable to make anything happen.

The rx & tx lights both go crazy once i enter freestyler but i cant get my Venue 56led can can light todo anything.

Im 100% new to dmx so i could be doing something really wrong.

here's a link to the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/250955236480?ss ... 1497.l2649

I have installed the FTDI drivers and my usb adapter shows up under com port 5 in device manger (windows 7)

Thanks for ANY & ALL help

Larry!

Im not shure, If it is possible to use your interface with Freestyler. But your fried is right, the bus topology is the same as RS485. I think first step is to compare the instruction set (physcal both controler have the same features)
Chip used on Enttec open dmx USB: http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/ICs/FT232BM.htm
Chip used on your RS485 card: http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/ICs/FT232R.htm
If the instruction set is equal I think it should work.
I now that helps not much, but it is a first step ;)
