MIDI Triggering with an Akai MPD18

Post by testylefty »

OK - I feel I must contribute because of all that I have learned from everyone else's posts. I am a drummer in a cover band and I wanted something simple to trigger my Chauvet 4-BAR light fixtures with a drum stick. I just received the Akai MPD18 compact pad controller and it could not be any simpler. It cost me around $83 new from Amazon.

Load the driver, plug in the attached USB cable and you are ready to go. One quick change, make sure the full level button is turned on, on the MPD18 so it will send a full velocity note of 127 to match Freestyler and you do no have to modify Freestyler's ini file. No mido-ox, no midiyoke, no complicated data matching or conversion files. The next test will be to see how this unit holds up over time gigging out. Over and out.
