Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
you have to get the right type of DMX Decoder for your strips as they only work with the same type
if you have the LPD-6803 Strips you would need these
http://www.usledsupply.com/shop/rgb-dmx ... coder.html
if you have the WS-2801 Strips you would need these
http://www.usledsupply.com/shop/rgb-dmx ... coder.html
if you are not sure what ones you have look at the numbers printed on the chips on the strip
they should say 2801 or 6803 or there are a few other types as well

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
I'm so confused:
What's the difference between and analog and digital strips?
How many DMX channels do these converters handle, 3 or 24?

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
the analog strips all change at once
the digital strips you can control each led (or groups of 3 leds) depending on the model so you can create chase sequences and/or make every other one different colors
you can control 512 channels from each decoder

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
How many channels are used in one strip? Or how many LEDs per decoder?

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
it depends on the model of strip
The 12V RGB Flexible LED Strip 16' Roll (Digital Point Control) (60x WS-2801 chips / 180 Led)
http://www.usledsupply.com/shop/12v-rgb ... -ip68.html
uses 180 channels per reel so you can only connect 2.84 reels to each decoder
The 5V RGB Flexible LED Strip 16' Roll (Digital Point Control) (160x WS-2801 chips / 160 Led)
http://www.usledsupply.com/shop/12v-rgb ... 68-5v.html
uses 480 channels per reel so you can only connect 1.06 reels to each decoder
The 12V RGB Flexible LED Strip 16' Roll (Digital Point Control) (40x LPD-6803 chips / 120 Led)
http://www.usledsupply.com/shop/12v-rgb ... oated.html
uses 120 channels per reel so you can only connect 4.27 reels to each decoder

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
the brightness is about the same with both models the type of chip and weather each led is controllable or in groups of 3 leds
the 2801 chips have higher resolution 255 levels of brightness
where the 6803 chips only have 32 levels of brightness

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
So all you need is:
16' Digital LED Strip (5v for individual led control)
DMX to 2801 Decoder
Power Supply
And you can control that whole strip via dmx? Is anything else needed besides wiring, tools, etc?

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
Man that's a whole universe per 16' reel.
What are some of the programs used to control these as a matrix (for led signs, curtains, etc)?

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
yes you use universes very quickly with the 5v strips
you can use Freestyler if you only have one universe or Madrix or Sunlite or several other programs if you have more than one universe
of if you just want to run pre-programed shows then you can use a standalone controller like the
12V RGB LED Digital Point Controller 2801 with SD Card
http://www.usledsupply.com/shop/12v-rgb ... -card.html
here is a video of the 12v 6803 strips (every 3 leds)

How does the SD card ones work? They're preprogrammed shows on the SD cards?

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
The decoder has included software? Do you have a link to the software so I can see what it's capable of?

Re: usLEDsupply RGB DMX Decoder 3ch
Thank you! This is really interesting. Does it repeat the sequence over and over? (not at computer right now)
