Martin SCX600 Jumping

Post by andy-visionaldisco »

Not sure which forum this was relevant to!

I own 4 Martin Mania SCX600, and when using Freestyler's built in Pan/Tilt feature (i.e figure of 8, flower) I find if I set the speed too high that the mirrors will judder and jump on all of the lights, where as the Acme iRock ir5s scanners will continue to be smooth even at the highest speed.

Is this a bug in the SCX600 firmware? They are V1.31 I think.

Hello, andy-visionaldisco

No i think there it no Bug with the fixture or Software or DMX dongle.

Its Just the Unique Effects That Fixture have, especially the Movement from a Fixture.
Like i have the Mac500 and you can Say on the Digital display if i like to have it on Fast/Slow mode.
Fast = Movements fast , but not Precise
Slow = Movements Slower, But More Precise.

But with the Most Cheap scanner its not possible to Change that.
i also have the Jbs Dynamo 250 And that looks the Best if it Goes Realy fast.
Slow movements doesnt look nice.
And you also have the Showtec Clubscan With allmost the same Channel and Value assingement as the Jbs dynamo.
BUT The Showtec does the Slow movements Realy nice. but with the Fast movements it isnt as Fast as the JBS. Look at this Movie ;)

But you can also Set FADE TO SNAP, this will also give a Jumping effect :)
You can also use Disable all fades From the Cue window.

Thanks for your reply!

The Acme's actually perform smoother than the Martin's at high speed (taking the figure of 8 shape in Freestyler as the example), yet the Martin's are the more professional light (double price etc)

I shall try some updates of software, drivers and firmware on the Enttec USB DMX Pro..

Edit: a bit of googling comes up with this topic: http://www.martin.com/fORUM/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17187

And the manual has this clear information:

"Pan/tilt speed and effects speed

The speed at which the fixturesís
mirror pans and tilts, and the speed at which effects change, can be
adjusted on two extra channels. Selecting a speed allows you to adjust
fade times when using DMX controllers that do not feature fade time
programming (a fade time is the time taken for effects to change from one
scene to the next). If you select ëtrackingí on these channels, the DMX
controller defines fade times.

U n s u r e a b o u t s p e e d a n d t r a c k i n g ?
As a rule, you should set the fixture to tracking if you are using
programmed fade times or macros on your DMX controller. Select an
effects speed if you are not using programmed fade times or macros on
your DMX controller.
However, if you are using fade times on your controller and have set the
fixture to tracking, but effects movement is rough and irregular, setting
fade times on your controller to zero and selecting an effects speed may
give smoother movement.
Effects movement is set to ëtrackingí if the fixture is in DMX mode 1 and by
default."
