DMX interface stops working.

I'm using Enttec open dmx interface with Freestyler on laptop but everytime I use smoke machine interface stops responding, need to close Freestyler and un- an replug interface and boot program again.
Smoke machine is small cheapo non DMX wired remote.
Tried running laptop on battery only, no difference.
Play around with refreshrates of interface, no difference.
Tried Smoke machine on different power supply/ringmain, no difference.
All lighting is led, pars/bars/heads/strobes/effects etc. makes no difference if I'm using just a few lights or the whole rig.
I am now officially stumped, do any of you have any really good ideas as to what might be causing this??

oke i'm also have this problem BUT i now this is a bug the enttec open always had so far i now.
it is a cheap device so you get what you pay for.( i also have the Pro version because this reasen)
but there are fixes for this.
try:
http://www.freestylersupport.com/fsforu ... f=10&t=332 if you are good with a soldering iron.
or you can try to buy a USB hub with is own power source so NOT the power of your Laptop.
hope this is go work.

Hello!
Had the same problem with my Laptop.
Solved this by using 3 Phase Power Supply ( N, L1, L2, L3 - 3 times 230V AC ):
1st Phase used only for Music Amplifier, Mixer...
2nd Phase used only for no DMX Fixtures like Mirror Ball, Fog machine... ( only switched devices )
3rd Phase used only for Computer Equipment and DMX controlled Fixtures.
I made the "mistake" to supply my Laptop for testing purposes on 2nd Phase -> Interface stops working!
After selecting the right Phase all works properly.
Use a Filter ( in german Eingangsdrossel ) L-C Components. This will destroy bad Frequencies which could be the reason for this Phanomen. There are also Powerdistributers (in german Mehrfachstecker) availably with integrated Filters. Maybe this would help too in one-way 230V AC Supplies.
With 3 Phase Power Supply i also fixed the Problem from "Klick" making in the music when some non DMX Fixture is switched!!!

Hello!
If you have longer DMX Cables or if they are positioned beside the powerlines don't forget to plug in a terminal resistor with 150 Ohm on last DMX Out!

150 ohm
It must be a 110 or 120 ohm resistor

Yes, thats, right, at least for the 120 ohm :
http://www.thedmxwiki.com/definitions/dmx_cables
http://www.thedmxwiki.com/definitions/dmx512
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMX512
but as far as I know a terminator with wrong resistance is better than no one. of course don't use 0.00001 ohm or 100000000 ohm (completely hypothetical values)

I have been having this problem and it is very annoying!
I believe I may have found a simple work around.
First I tried a powerd USB hub and if anything it was worse, so out of desperation I tried an old, cheap, unpowered USB 1.1 hub (this one
http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=12780) i had lying around.
So far so good, I have been using it for about an hour and no cut outs, it would have usually done it about 4 times by now!
Im not sure if I was just lucky with this hub or if the fact it is USB 1.1 only has anything to do with it.
I hope this helps!
