No Sound-to-light on 2 different systems...

I don`t know why, but for me it is not possible to get work S2L on 2 totally different systems with different versions of FS.
The first machine is a netbook which controls our lightshow with several scenes, cues etc. FS is ver.3.2.8. everything works fine except sound2light (ver.1.0.0.5 beta). If i start s2l, it indicates signal, calculates bpm and everything seems to be fine.
but it looks like there is no connection between FS and S2L. React to sound is enabled in cues but they simply don`t react to sound
Exactly the same behavior i notice on my desktop-pc. FS is ver.3.3.2 with s2l 1.0.0.8beta. i also tried s2l 1.0.0.7 beta without success. its annoying to install 6 versions of s2l to get one that possibly works
Maybe there is anything i overlooked while trying to get s2l work for me?
What can i do?

Do you start s2l directly or trough FreeStyler? Klick in FreeStyler on the little speaker icon in the menu bar to start s2l.

that`s the way i do it
starting fs, klick the little speaker-icon, set up s2l, starting a cue and... nothing happens. sequences just run with the pre-defined tempo.
there`s running win-xp(32bit) on my netbook and win7(64bit) on my desktop - on both i observe the same behaviour!?!?
thats why i think that maybe i do something wrong - but i cant figure out what it could be...

I am runing win7 64x on my PC and XP 32bit on my laptop, and everything works fine with s2l.
Have you enabled "React to sound" also for the cue you want to control with sound to light? There is a litte speaker in the cue list window wich must not be scratched out.
This are the only ideas I have what could be wrong. Both very basic but perhaps I hit your problem with the second idea. If not, perhaps someone else knowing s2l better will help you.

yes, the speakers for the cues in my cuelists i want to control are NOT scratched out. i don`t know if there is anything else to do, to let freestyler react to sounds... any other idea?
thanx for your help so far

Is s2l detecting the sounds? Can you tap on the desk or computer and see the light blink in rhythm with your tapping? Maybe your computer/microphone is not detecting sounds?

hello
as mentioned in my first post:
If i start s2l, it indicates signal, calculates bpm and everything seems to be fine.
s2l shows the level of music and everything is in green region what shows that s2l itself is working (imho)
anyway... freestyler ignores this!

Lets try version 1.0.0.9. Just to be sure its nothing that we've fixed already.
Download it here at my website:
http://www.digiplay.nl/fs/
Version 1.0.0.7 and above have a debug message log. Enable that in the config (Enable "show debug messages"). Have a look at the text field containing those messages. Copy and paste the info into this topic.

hello - i have tried 1.0.0.7 because 1.0.0.9 won`t work - i now reinstalled 1.0.0.9 and it just says:
....
22:34:24 Beat trigger
22:34:26 Beat trigger
22:34:29 Beat trigger
22:34:29 Beat trigger
22:34:29 Beat trigger
22:34:30 Beat trigger
22:34:30 Beat trigger
22:34:30 Beat trigger
....
and going on...
i think that`s nothing unusual? but i don`t know

That log tells me that S2L found FreeStyler running, detecting beats properly and is sending beat triggers to it. So lucky me... That all works.
Otherwise it would be complaining something like this:
23:14:43 Beat trigger
23:14:43 FS window not found [main]
(this is what you see if you close FreeStyler when S2L is running, or start S2L seperately)
This does not rule out there's a bug in S2L, nor does it prove a bug in FreeStyler.
Somehow we need to get more info. Its late. Don't know how at the moment.
You should try and play more, get as much as info as possible. Try different things and report here.

make sure you have set configured FS to trigger cues with the sound to light program. you do this in the cue window (speaker icon)as you already have said you do and in the sound configuration window which pops up when you click on the speaker icon in top main window (which also open S2L).

ok, please tell me what more can i try? you say everything seems to be fine - but it won`t work anymore
it`s funny (ok it`s NOT really funny) that i have the same behaviour on two totally different systems.
this is how it looks like - all settings i think need to do. maybe i overlook something?

could you take a photo of the S2L config page as well?
does something happen when you press the:
- Beat button in S2L?
- trigger button in the FS S2L config window?

the last time i tried it is quite long time ago - with a much older version of freestyler (without "new" s2l). it worked - not really good - but it worked.
when i press the beat-button the effect is the same. s2l calculates bpm but freestyler simply does not react.
here`s the screenshot of s2l-config ->

tap-sync & manual trigger in freestyler cue-window works.

but what about the trigger button next to the "jumb to next stop (CUE...) and "Random DMX Calues" settings in the FS Sound to light config window?

then it's not a bug in the S2L program but in FS (lucky for remco_k

).. however I can not reproduce the issue. I dont have any ideas what could cause this,

^^ maybe the "jump to next step (CUE)..." is'nt selected, it should be for this to work.
Edit: ...Oh wait, the screenshot shows it is selected.
So pressing the trigger button on that form does'nt work either?
Lucky me indeed. Ghehe....

If only I knew... I would have posted that here.
Just a (very) long shot: FreeStyler has several ways of getting the beat of an external source. Among others its a Midi signal "sound to light trigger". Did you config that, if so, try to "unconfig" it and see if the S2L is working now.
On the other hand: does freestyler respond to the midi "sound to light trigger" signals when you set that up?

it`s not really that funny for me

...
i neither have configured anything in midi-section nor can i use ist in case of missing equipment. everything in midi-section is marked as "n.a."
this problem really sucks
i can`t believe anything is going wrong@ my side because it happens on 2 totaly different machines with different versions of OS and different Versions of s2l & FS ...

try this.
- create new location with some fixtures
- right click on the fixtures and choose "react to sound"
- open the "sound to light" window and choose "Random DMX values"
- open Output --> show output
- click on the "trigger" button constantly in the "sound to light" window
does this get the output to change??

i have done exactly like you described ->
- new location,
- added two fixtures
- react to sound activated
- no scenes or something like that
- opened "show output"
- random dmx values
- klicked "trigger" button in s2l
... the output does not change

win7-64bit
- start as admin - freestyler crashes during startup
on second machine freestyler 3.2.8 is installed on win-xp, no admin privileges required

ok, now i tried this - re-installed freestyler on my win7-machine with given admin-rights for the setup. the setup does not ask for it itself!
after this -> trying startup freestyler with admin-rights -> freestyler crashes during startup.
startup freestyler WITHOUT admin-rights -> freestyler starts and EVEN s2l works! wtf...?
i have to remark, that i have installed FS on both machines @ another partition, not on c:\... but this could not really be the problem, huh?
however... this does not solve the problem on my "lightning-machine" with xp running on it. i will do some testing with install etc. on my xp-machine tomorrow. now i first have to get some sleep
i will keep you informed!
