i have used jms usb2dmx before and works fine - but its half the price of enttec open...
what makes enttec better/more expensive? is it worth upgrading.

Enttec's tried and tested alot of users have it over the Jms, although for real reliability and output an enttec pro is worth your while

Same with me. I used to use a jms usb2dmx interface. Now we ordered a DMX4ALL USB-DMX STAGE-PROFI MK3. The big difference is the new interface has a build in processor. So it takes care to hold all timings and sends out a clean DMX signal.

In smal setups mostly the "simple" interfaces (simple because the have no build in processor) work fine. But you can run in trouble with bigger setups. Then you may get problems with the timings.

Another thing is, that the more expensive interfaces often have some other features. For the example at our new one you cen programm a sequence and flash it onto the interface. This sequence will run if no USB signal is connected. If the Laptop for the light breaks down during a show (hopefully not!!!) there will be no unusual behavior of the fixtures. Imagan the smoke mashine is running, the laptop for the lights breaks down, the smoke mashine does not stop to smoke... Very bad
Another thing: for realy small setups (4 CANs running a simple sequence) it is enough to bring the interface with you, you do not need the laptop to controll the lights

Thanks, we are only using freestyler while we save up 2k for a pearl - would the jms do us ok for a year or should we go for the enttec? the only thing i dont like about the enttec is its 5 pin so would need a converter so thats just 1 more thing in the line that has potential to break..

4x mac 300
5x led par
1x smoke machine
1x lazer

Looking at it that way, I'd say the jms usb2dmx is far less reliable on itself then an Enttec open or pro with an passive 5 to 3 pin converter connected.
Meaning: Don't bother about 1 passive converter without electronics in it.
Or you replace the XLR 5 pin chassis with an XLR 3 pin chassis. It all fits...

I guess you are using the jms usb2dmx already? If it works, it works right? So why bother buying another when there is no problem whatsoever?

The one i have been using isnt mine - have used it for testing the setup with no problems. - im just deciding if a £50 one will work when out on hires or if i should spash out the extra.
