Art-net to DMX

Hello,

Is there any chance to add the ability to Art-Net to DMX to choose which network interface it would be listening to for art-net packets ?

I would have done that myself if the source would be available in any OS kind of license but i can't find it anywhere, anyway, I do volunteer to do that if required.

Best regards,

Also, on the subject, Art-Net to DMX is crashing.

Using Compulite Vector PC, 1 port configured, 1 universe, with a enttec open dmx compliant interface (it's an ftdi based dmx interface just like enttec one) Art-Net to DMX crashes while operating after a few seconds of sending artnet packets. Can't really do much debugging.

Any developer actively reading this forum ?
About 10 days and no reply, already volunteered to fix the issue and add the feature, but can't be done without source... is there any interest in community help?

there is only one developer, he does read the forum but very rarely posts.
FS is not currently open source, altough a few years ago there was talk but nothing materialised
bugs should be reported in the usual way

If I may speak for user LJ_Raph, the developer of FS:
Yes, there is. But I can imagine not wanting to give away source code for certain projects.

Speaking for myself: I created the S2L plugin - and people may use it for free with FreeStyler. But releasing the source code, no, I won't do that. Too many commercial interest that would 'steal' it.

I don't want to turn this topic into some open source/closed source argument, but, right now, things are slow because there is only one developer, and I'm pretty sure that being open sourced it would have alot more participants into improving the code, with the current sole developer being in a filter management of what should be integrated into the source or not from all the community code supplied.

I could have fixed the bug + added the feature of choosing the NIC that art-net to dmx would listen for packets in less than the time you guys took to reply on this thread.

More people would test and consequently fix the project.

And about 3rd party commercial applications 'stealing' your code, well, for starters don't think this project uses anything so innovative compared to other similar projects that the developer would want to keep for himself alone and/or profit with it, if there were, he would have patented it, further more, you can select an appropriate license (and/or make your own) in order to lock any usage of that code for 3rd party developers. Using 'code stealing' as a reason not to open source any code is just a bad excuse imo.

Point is, I could have done the bug fix, and added the feature, I didn't not because of me, and instead, I focused my problem solving (instead of waiting for a fix here) into adding features to QLC which I'll patch soon, and making my own Art-Net to DMX in QT.

I'll reiterate, if there is any interest in my help to add the feature and/or bug fix the crash I'll be happy to give my contribute to Freestyler because it's free, I wouldn't if it wasn't free, I don't work for a private software company, I work for a sound & light rental company, I have no interest in 'stealing' any code, and like me I'm sure others do think the same.

Best regards,

We, well i have discussed this with Raph before it may well come to open source but not yet cause yeah I'm all for OS even though I cant contribute anything for it... If you wish to help Raph or suggest stuff to him or even write 3rd party addons using the send message system send him an email! [freestylerdev][/freestylerdev]
