Freestyler and DJ-ing software on the same machine

Hello,
I've been using Virtual DJ for a while for my small parties, on a notebook. I am slowly expanding my light stuff, I used an external DMX controller (Boost DC-240J, same box exists in a lot of brands), this was already a pain with very few DMX gear, but now as I'm expanding and considering buying a pair of moving heads etc.., this is not anymore usable. So I'm considering switching to PC-dmx and freestyler. But I don't want to buy an additional notebook for this of course.
So I'd like to know if freestyler and djing software like V-DJ can work flawlessly on the same notebook? V-DJ would be in the foreground , so what about keayboard shortcuts? I'd like to trigger progrmas/scenes etc.. with kb shortcuts.
Thanks.
