I was surfing on youtube when i found videos of this new lamp whit 3 axis, the "CHAUVET INTIMIDATOR SPOT XYZ LED". I'm not sure I'm thinking this is a smart design. well, it looks a bit nice when it moves around, but I think it is hard to control it comparing to a traditional moving head. in on of the videos they said it can light up any spot in the room, I believe a traditional moving head can do that too, and easier because you only have to axis to adjust when trying to hit a specific point. futhermore as this is the first og the kind no lighting software/consoles supports an extra axis. I think I pass on this one

Ive played with one of these and did not like it. Its not that easy to control.
As Onge said its a nightclub effect. Its not something I want to be fitting in any of the clubs I work on though!
The stepper motor that does the extra movement will be under a lot of stress and could be prone to going faulty.

These XYZ heads can reach any corner in any venue, just like any other XY head can. So for that you don't need them.
They are just there to add some effect for front lighting. And still... I look at it and think: it looks like a mess... It just does not look nice, it almost seems they are broken.

I can see some use for it as a cool visual effect of the light moving onstage. I agree that it has very little added angle possibilities over a standard XY, except for the possibility to shine almost directly underneath itself (think sitting on-top of truss towers shining down outlining the front of the tower). I would also like to point out that this is not the first 3 axis moving head, see the Studio Duo RGB+A D-Color (@ http://www.studiodue.com/). The difference in movement capabilities between the two, however, is that the additional axis on the D-Color is just a 2nd TILT function perpendicular to the first, where the 2nd PAN function on the XYZ is actually a pan on a 45 degree angle (meaning really this is not true XYZ axis
).
I wouldn't buy either myself, but could have some fun programming them, especially framing a stage with a truss arch and hanging them facing inwards.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the D-Color is also known down here as "The Penis Light"
Furthermore if you read Studio Due's description of the D-Color it mentions the possibility of "erecting". How much more sexual innuendo could you put into a light
