Software and FreeStylers

Post by Onge »

I was just looking at another piece of lighting software and noticed at the bottom of the web page something that caught my eye.

Take a look here. Scroll to bottom of page and look at copyright notice.

What do others think ?

The software looks like it is a cross between Daslight DVC2 with bits from Sunlite Suite and maybe Lightfactory. Don't know for sure as have not downloaded it.

Well Onge you know what I think but thats not what I expected. Im familiar with 'Soundlight' and I have some of their devices. I'll download it at some point and see if the device I have will work with the s/w and see what the s/w is like as well.

It was the FreeStylers bit that I was refering too.

I have downloaded the software. It is very similar to Daslight in a lot respects but also has some of the features that they was not intersted in implementing in Daslight.
I have also found out that the parent company of Daslight and Sunlite is DMXSOFT and guess what other product they have in there line up ... yep ... LumiDesk. Well that explains a lot to me now. Still glad I have got away from Daslight and thier "DISCO" product.

Has anyone asked Raph about this?
Im not sure how the law stands on things like this or if Raph has protected the name in any way.

FS has been around for ages now and it seems wrong that anyone could copy the name in this way especially when its another lighting program!
