3d view doesn't work

Hi,

I'm new on freestyler (at the moment I use DASLIGHT) but someone told me to try freestyler.

So here are some questions.

1) don't find the DASlight controler (DVC1024 GOLD) in the interface list. But i heard it will work. Which interface do i have to chose. Now i work with 'no interface' to try the program
2) Where can i find the fixture for a HQPower LEDbar VDPLW1028. is doesn't seems to be in the list. Can i use the driver that's included in the DASlight list or will this create problems?
3) I also patched the GENI Shive 250 scan. Is it normal that on the toolbar, the lamp setting button isn't highlighted?
4) now i want to see results so i started the 3d viewer. (chose my scans again..etc) It look's that i am doing something wrong here becouse i don't see my scans working in this 3d view. Is there a sepparate guide how to combine freestyler and 3dview ?
5) installing freestyler from the site on my laptop didn't work. I got the message 'bad setup file' After chosing the link from the downloadpage from the forum everything worked out fine. I tried it then on my desktop and had no problems.

So if anybode could give me some tips it would be apreciated.

Marc

I don't know anything about this. maybe Onge can help you out, he go it working with a daslight interface: Daslight DVC2 Gold and Sunlite SL2048FC
2) Where can i find the fixture for a HQPower LEDbar VDPLW1028. is doesn't seems to be in the list. Can i use the driver that's included in the DASlight list or will this create problems?
the fixture does not exist, yet. you have to create it yourself by using the "fixture creator" program which is included in the Freestyler install.
you can find some help at the freestyler wiki: Fixture Creator Tutorial - LED Bars. if you have any problems you can ask for help here: FreeStyler Fixture Files - Help & Support. Remember to attach the manual.
3) I also patched the GENI Shive 250 scan. Is it normal that on the toolbar, the lamp setting button isn't highlighted?
the fixture file for the shiva 250 dont contain any data for strobe, shutter and intensity. thats why you cant open the lamp setting window. what I have found on the web, the lamp don't have these features.
4) now i want to see results so i started the 3d viewer. (chose my scans again..etc) It look's that i am doing something wrong here becouse i don't see my scans working in this 3d view. Is there a sepparate guide how to combine freestyler and 3dview ?
Magic 3D Easy View must be started from the FreeStyler toolbar, if you start it any other way then it will not communicate with FreeStyler. Look at the freestyler wiki and see if that will solve your issues- if not, ask again:
Frequently Asked Questions
Using Magic 3D Easy View
5) installing freestyler from the site on my laptop didn't work. I got the message 'bad setup file' After chosing the link from the downloadpage from the forum everything worked out fine. I tried it then on my desktop and had no problems.
weird, I have no problems at all.

I hope I could help. otherwise ask again and someone on the forum will be happy to help (I think  )

That someone is a good guy.

Start the 3D viewer using the 3D button in FS, otherwise it will not work.
Viewing the results in 3d viewer works in 2 ways.
1. Pure virtual mode: Instead of selecting an hardware DMX interface in FreeStyler, select "virtual interface". That way you don't need an DMX interface at all and all DMX data is always sent to the 3d viewer.
2. Shared mode: If you have selected an hardware DMX interface (like your daslight interface), then 3d viewer will not show you the realtime data. Instead, if you start editing a sequence offline (that is, when one or more cue's are running) then the 3d viewer will show that offline data only, while your real show goes on in real life.
5) installing freestyler from the site on my laptop didn't work. I got the message 'bad setup file' After chosing the link from the downloadpage from the forum everything worked out fine. I tried it then on my desktop and had no problems.
That is strange. Never heard of that. But the setup succeeded at the end right?

thanks guys

First, the Shiva 250 has a strobe effect so I still can't see why this button is highlighted.
How does it come that in the map there are subfolders (HQPower) and when i wan't to insert a fixture these subfolders can't be seen?

What fixture are you using the Shiva-R or the Shiva200-250?
Use the Shiva-R as it has all the channels defined correctly according to the manual I found.. Shutter, Strobe etc. and the correct Gobos.

The HQPOWER folder is available in Add/Remove Fixtures, and within the fixture creator program, on my setup ?

I have a similar problem with my 3D visualizer. I have tried all the suggestions on this thread, and I have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling 3 separate times. Yet no matter what I do, I cannot get Freestyler to talk to the Visualizer

Can you upload your 3d stage and fs location file to this thread. I'll have a look and see whats wrong.

I'm about to ask a really stupid question so brace yourselves.

What's my 3d stage and fs location file, and how do I access them?

OK I think we need to get back to the basics here my friend!
The location is the fs desktop that will have the various fixtures you want to operate on it.
The 3d stage is the setup in the magic 3d window that you have created to represent the lights you are to control with FS.

The fact that you asked these questions tells me that you are totally new to fs and lighting in general. Please dont feel stupid for asking though!

Im going to give you a little homework that will really help you understand all this and more.

3 sites to look at and the FS help / manual file included with the software.
Site 1 - You are already looking at it! - This forum has many answers to many questions and plenty of friendly helpful people too
Site 2 The FS Wiki - Written by memebers of this forum. Its a more indepth 'help / manual' - Not yet complete but really helpful.
http://www.freestylersupport.com/wiki/
Site 3 The DMX Wiki - Written by members of this forum. A guide to all things DMX - Well worth a look at as it will help understand the terminology associated with lighting.
http://www.thedmxwiki.com/

The journey into intelligent lighting control is a long one and knowbody has ever learnt it all over night. Take your time, read the info avalible and play about with FreeStyler (FS).

Ive been messing with this software for 4 years now and still find new things I did not know!

When you get stuck let us know and we will help you again.

Until then ..... Happy reading!

Thanks a bunch for those information sources! It's not so much that I'm new to lighting (I've been doing it in theaters for almost a decade, with a few instances involving moving lights), and more that I'm not very familiar with freestyler.

Got it working, thanks guys! I forgot that I had to patch it in the visualizer as well (doh!)...
