yo, I was adding and removing fixture like a mad man, and after installing the new version and being the mad man, it messedup up my "steps" and removed the fixture inside the steps, and leaving me a blank steps file, with no device connected onto it, it was shooting blanks, how can u attach the fixture back into the sequence file, after removing the fixture, I see stuff that you can select or deselect the sequence/step files, new function?

Its not a feature I have yet used. LJ Krede knows a bit more about it.

I belive you are talking about the sequence cleaner but not sure how that has / will affect your saved work.

Do I :o :?: :?: :?:

oh, yeah actually I do, I know something about it.

when you remove a fixture from the fixture list, FS asks you if you want to remove the fixture from your programmed sequences where the fixture is included. If you choose yes it will do it for all your sequences (which is crap,, it should be changed!!!) but before cleaning your sequences, FS makes backup sequences in the backup folder. you can find your previous sequences there. just copy paste them into the chasers folder.

if you manually use the sequence cleaner you can choose which sequences should be cleaned in stead of all.

I just click on close, but then it's already done, lol
I have made my own, backups a while ago by copying the files form out of scene folder to my backup, but yea, that would suck if someone have lost their scene's/sequences/steps :o

Yeah I have seen FS just decide without any option or warning to 'clean' sequences when a fixture is removed.

I think it should be changed back or something? I don't see the point in that that function there?

It does have a function but I think it should be an option in fs setup. Not just standard part of fs.
I belive that this feature may have caused me a problem recently as well.

are you saying that the sequence cleaner, cleans the sequences without any notice? never happend to me..I just have to remember not to say "yes" when the pop up appears
Renember that the sequence cleaner back up your files before it cleans

I have watched it clean without any warning when fixtures have been removed.

It might just be me. I think my setup was a bit strange with 2 instaces of fs and one with a beta in the same folder as 3.2.8 and I did not make it this way.

Anyway. I do think the cleaner is a good feature its just from what ive seen it could be a dangerous one too.

what is there to clean?

EDIT: and how do u re-attach those fixtures back into the sequence? without using a "back-up" I sometimes add and remove fixture for testing purpose, but it's doesn't mean that I want my 200 steps to be gone for my fixture, actually, I have no idea how the steps remember on what fixture to play onto?

Lets say you have many sequences with 8 Moving Light, but now want to use 2 of them for diferent things (other sequences). before the sequence cleaner feature you could:

* change the dmx Adresses - but then you cant use them with some of the old sequences
* disable the Moving Light from playback - then you cant run sequences for the lights at all
* manually remove the lights for each of your sequences - takes time

with the sequence cleaner you can choose which lights have to be removed from a certain sequence(s). furthermore the sequence cleaner removes unused channels from sequences

the sequence cleaner makes a backup of the chosen sequence(s) in a backup folder and change the original (removing the selected fixture(s) from the sequence(s))

I hope this descriptions is clear enough, otherwise ask again.

EDIT: i will discribe this feature in the wiki

Are you using some speciel and top secret sequences, since you always cross out the names?

it looks weird. there should be some fixture names in the left box. and you should get a pop op window which would ask if the cleaner should clean your sequences. FS should not do this without asking.

I use some weird names for my sequences, and privacy is a issue for me, due to that this is all public :?

I get no pop-up that you describers, the only pop-up I get is that box that is displayed in my screenshot, no fixtures nothing... :(

I have checked my newly installed 3.2.9 and it now definatly DOES have a ' Do you want to clean ' window that pops up when removing fixtures.
It DID defiatley automaticly clean sequences in past instances without ant warning. I think this could become a problem for other so please watch out for this.

To be on the safe side please everybody check that you get the warning box ...

Try the following to prevent any good sequences being cleaned..................

1 > save the current location and then open a new blank location.
2> add 1 or 2 fixtures (it does not matter what!) and close that add fixtures window so the FS desktop is shown.
3> go back to add fixtures window and remove 1 fixture from the list.
4> You should now get a 'warning window' asking should fs clean the sequences or not. If you dont you will maybe notice that a load of stuff happens within
the add fixture window (looks like a lot of text wizzing through)

If the first instance from 4> happens then all is well and you should have a 'safe FS' install.
If the second instance from 4> happens then you could inadvertantly lose some or all of your work. (fear not if you followed these steps you have lost nothing!)

If you think this may have lost some work in the past then FS does backup all data before cleaning and you will find the backup folder in the fs directory in the 'Backup' folder. Each backup file is dated on the day it was backed up. Did I say backup enough ? or should I say backup again as a backup?

All backed up ?
