MIDI mapping question

Hi all,
I've been using FS for two events (couple of months) and im finally getting around to using something other than keyboard shortcuts. I want to MIDI a usb device but when I plug it in and open FS Setup i go to select input in the MIDI control section and the device is not there. Any idea what's up?
Thanks

yeah thanks. Don't know why i didn't do that in the first place
Well I don't have a single controller yet but i've been wanting to try some general usb controllers (i.e. game controllers, x-y pad, even a guitar hero controller maybe) and yes, i know i can do some of that by using joystick mode in keyboard shortcuts, but that doesn't offer as many actions as midi.

The best midi controller to use is a beringer BCF2000. They are cheap and popular and really functional.
Loads of people on here have them so support is good.
Can be picked up on fleabay for around £100. I use one as a playback wing and find it to be great.
Some folk seem to like the Korg Nano range but Ive never used them so cant comment.
Using game control devices is pretty haphazzard and not ideal.
I do know that an xbox 360 conroller will do some stuf but you need the software from microsoft. Its free so you may wanna look into that?
Also I have looked at the 'buzz' controllers from a ps2 and they do some stuff to but mostly make fs crash from what I remember.
Anyway most game usb controllers will do something but it boils down to keyboard shorts realy.
Hope that helps

yeah ive used a ps2 controller w keyboard shortcuts before and it worked just fine. i am planning on getting a controller but I cant get one before my next event and I was planning on playing around a bit then. So is there anyway to use these types of simple controllers as MIDI just for the short term or to fiddle around?

Simple answer is no. Only a midi controller will give you the option to assign midi commands to FS. The other type of control is the Enttec Wings which is rather like midi but is device specific and the hardware is quite expensive.
So until you get a midi controller its keyboard shorts for you! (if you want a really cheap midi controller you could get yourself an old yamaha or casio electronic keyboard)
