Tap Sync and fade times

Hi All,
I have been playing about with the tap-sync functionality recently.
Am I right in saying that the tap-sync only affects the scene time on a chase and not the fade times?
For example. if I have a fading chase over some cans and then use tap-sync to sync to some music, the cans only get part way through their fade before the next step.
Likewise, making a movement chase for scans, if the tempo picks up the scans only perform part of the movement.
Am I doing something wrong, is there a way to change that behaviour or is that just how it works?
