Freestyler in virtual mode...MORE?

As I'm waiting for my Enttec Pro and other parts to arrive I'm trying to play around with Freestyler to get a feel for it. Can Freestyler's virtual 3D section work on it's own before you have ever even hooked up the hardware DMX Pro box for the 1st time?
At this point the 3d visualize button is greyed out and has no response though I've selected "virtual mode" and done the Enttec pro software and driver installs.
I can get fixtures loaded up, but no function from the "Magic 3D easy view" button which I am guessing is the "3D visualizer" folks talk about?
Maybe windows doesn't exactly get the drivers all in place until when you you actually hook up the DMX pro for the 1st time?
Pardon my noob question, this is my 1st post!

Yes you can. The magic Easy viewer have nothing to do with the interface. thats why its called a "virtual interface" in the Freestyler setup

if the 3d button is grayscaled you havent installed the easy viewer. When you are installing Freestyler you have to set a checkmark that you want to install the easy viewer together with Freestyler.
You can try install freestyler again and remember the checkmark (the easiest way) or you can install the viewer as discrpied in this

Thank you that did the trick. I guess I wasn't paying attention during the install, however the installer defaults to NOT installing the viewer so it's easy to miss. I didn't realize the viewer was effectively another program running within Freestyler. I notice it was a bit more finicky with the viewer installed, as I crashed mine a few times on my desk top computer if I double click the viewer too much to open it. My little HP mini seems a more stable with it actually, though I have yet to really try much yet. Now it's time to watch the tutorials...
Thanks!

Thanks!
I think that is because at bases the most users don't use (and never will) use that 3d feature.
And, if reinstalling FreeStyler, there's no need to install the Easy View again.
Lets turn it around to something else that I really hate:
If you install, lets say, Adobe's free PDF reader or Winamp, you need to pay attention during the setup, because otherwise you'll get the 'free' (but VERY annoying and unwelcome) google toolbar and other shit on your system. They are enabled by default. Crap.
Now there is a slight difference between the google toolbar and the easy viewer in functionality, but I just use that to make a point.

I agree. Software companies love to fill your computer with task bar this and quick launch that and trial software. Some days I think getting my computer cleaned up would be best done by reformatting the drive and starting over.
OK, another noob question...
To test the virtual mode I've loaded 4 fixtures (tried both Chauvet colorsplash Jr. & 200B) in Freestyler. Then I open up the 3D viewer and install them there too. Then I go back to Freestyler and click on a fixture and work with the color and lamp controls. I can't seem to get the fixture to actually light up in the viewer. I have yet to get my USB to DMX converter, just trying to learn the program AND viewer in virtual mode.
What am I missing?

have you selected the "virtual Interface" in the Freestyler setup?

Yes
The only thing I've since got to react is on the Colorsplash jr. I can get a thin green flashing line to come up from the light, but only if I move channel 1 for that fixture which is supposed to be an unused channel. None of the color channels do anything. If I call up a 200B none of the sliders (that you can call up on the right of the screen) seem to do anything in the viewer. The lights are there however and I can move and tilt the fixtures, just no (virtual) light from them in the 3D viewer.

OK, I questioned the stock fixtures and since I don't even have any splash jrs. I won't use them to test things.
However the 200Bs don't work either, and I have 4 of those on the way so I will be using them along with a Chauvet 4Bar that I'll probably have to make a profile for as it's so new.
What would be one basic LED par fixture in the stock fixture list known to work for testing the program and my computer?
