Hi ALl Can anybody recommend how i can do this 99 % of software has 1000's feature's i do not need. What i am looking for is a very high channel count (RGB) only. what i am after: the Project is i have 3000 RGB leds i want basic rgb control of them with maybe a step chaser so i can chase scenes. the project is for my house all my light posts ,trees, accent lighting, surround lighting. ANY hep is greatly appreciated. I have an Entech open USB device looking at getting a pair of pro devices.

I hardly understand you post. I guess you want to control 3000 RGB leds, each seperately?
Then DMX is not the technique you need.

1 DMX interface, controls 1 DMX universe wich has a maximum of 512 channels. Meaning that if each LED needs 4 channels (RGB and Dim) that you can control 512/4 = 128 leds per DMX universe. (I assumed 4 channels per led, but also can be 3).
If you want to control 3000 LEDs this way, you need 24 DMX universes. I guess that hardly any software can control that.
"A pair of pro devices" will not be enough. You would need 24 of them.
(And think about the USB problems you gonna have when having that many interfaces connected).

You need to group leds so lesser DMX channels are needed.
Next to that, FreeStyler is not capable of running more than 1 DMX universe. So if you want to use FreeStyler, you have to go down to 512 channels.
Then 1 DMX interface would be enough. You can control all your 3000 Leds with it, if divided into 128 sections of 4 channels.

I would agree with what Remco says.

I am interested to know what type of LED products you are going to use.

I fit LED technologies for a living in bars & nightclubs etc.
I cant imagine needing individual control of 3000 units, LED or otherwise. The setup of this would be a nightmare!
Is it that each unit has a large nuber of LED ie a Par56 LED could have a total of 150 leds (50 red, 50 blue, 50 green?) ?
Then 3000 leds would infact be 20 adressable fixtures and a say 5 channels per unit thats 100 channels used out of 512.
If thats the case then Freesyler will do all you want to do very easily. I use it loads for programming basic little DMX replay units to control LED doing colours changes on back bars in clubs and on feature walls etc.
