Modes?

Would it be possible to add a modes feature to fixture creator. For such things as lasers that run modes off of a channel with four to five values.
Thanks

I think what you want is Macros...

Macros would work, i was just thinking of keeping it in a seperate box from the macros, for like switching from dynamic patterns to static patterns and so on..then selecting the pattern from the macro end. Maybe being able to have more then one Macro screen for a fixture?

EDIT2: Never mind, I seem to have answered my own questions

Gidday, could someone just check my understanding of macros: They're a shortcut for setting values within a given channel or channels, yeah?
Asking in this thread as I too was wondering if there was a nice(er) way of handling this - I'm starting fairly basic, creating a setup for a Chauvet COLORbank LED, and that has it's first channel for "mode", which changes the behavior of the other three channels. I was half-hoping for something that would then reflect the change in mode by changing the in-FS behavior (disables unused-but-assigned channels when not in that mode, otherwise reflects behavior of channel for current mode). EG:
CH1: Mode.
0-9 Blackout, no function for other channels
10-79: In lots of 10, RGBYCMW static colour. CH3 from 0-249 is flash-speed, 250-255 "sound active", CH2 & 4 no function
80-139: In lots of 10, Colour-changes. CH2 is run-speed%, CH3 as-above, CH4 no function
140-209: In lots of 10, Sequential (down the light-strip) colour-changes. CH2 is run-speed, CH3 & 4 no function
210-219: RGB Mix mode. CH2: Red%, CH3: Green%, CH4: Blue%
220-229: Colour fade. CH2 is fade-speed%, CH3 & 4 no function
230-255: Auto/Sound Activated. CH2, 3 & 4 no function.
EDIT:
Actually what I'm probably really asking is does anyone have any recommendations for a fixture with an existing fixture-file that has similar mode-functions, as well as [the fixture] having a readily available DMX channel-listing so I can relate this back to?
Cheers!

I would like to see modes added to the profile editor as in 8Bit/16Bit so we don't have to have 2 or more profiles depending on which mode the fixture is set. ie, 2 profiles in one profile
I was just playing with QLC and it's profiles work that way. Shouldn't a fixture profile represent everything a fixture can do, not just it's mode at the moment? I know alot of us set our leds and moving fixtures a certain way and leave em that way, but some of us do not.

I don't agree on that. I use Robe spots a lot and they have 4 different modes. (example:
http://www.freestylersupport.com/fsforu ... f=69&t=901 )
2 modes are 8 bit, 2 modes are 16 bit. From the above given sample:
Code: Select all
Mode 1 2 3 4
-------------------
P8 1 1 1 1
T8 2 3 2 2
P16 3 2
T16 4 4
PT Speed 5 5 3
Color 6 6 4 3
Gobo 7 7 5 4
Shutter 8 8 6 6
And as you see, there is a lot more changing when changing the mode... Also I've worked with some hardware consoles, none of them have multiple modes inside 1 fixture profile*. I think that is of the above reason. Its not just pan/tilt that is changing.
I think it is better the way it is now, creating 4 profiles that have nothing to do with eachother other than that they are for the same fixture but in a different mode.
In this case, if the pt 8/16 bit switch is build in somewhere, I would still have to make 4 different fixturefiles, and have more work because on all profiles I'd have to add the 8 and 16 bit pt channels. (if available).

Well, you could say a fixture in some mode, say mode 1 is a fixture. And the same fixture in mode 2 is a complete other fixture.
Just my 2 cents.
* But you can change the profile to 8 or 16 bit and fill in the proper values. Still, that is on fixture profile level, so actually changing the fixturefile.
