I'm a noob to DMX overall but have had some successful setups in the past with other controllers. I am brand new to FreeStyler w/ a recently new uDMX interface. For my first setup last week, I have a bunch of wireless RGBAW fixtures running good with this version of FS and Interface. But when using it with older LED Par Cans, I'm getting some weird flickering - but only on some channels and on some fixtures (which took me a while to systematically figure out)
I am running FS 3.5.5 on Windows 7 Home Premium with a basic setup of qty 4, LED Par fixtures. They are a non-name brand of lights but work great on a Elation DMX Programmer Controller (It's all I have). I created a new Fixture using 4ch mapping that I determined from systematically testing.
- CH1 = Intensity / Strobe, CH2-4 = R, G, B
- I've got them inline DMX ch 1, 5, 9, 13
So this is the scoop - I am getting flickering on ONLY the Green and Blue Channels, but on ONLY fixtures beyond any fixture assigned to DMX Channel 1. So, lights 5, 9 and 13 all start flickering, but on Blue & Green channels only.
It doesn't matter which light I make 5, 9, or 13. It doesn't matter if it's 1st in the chain or last. Even a fixture by itself will flicker, unless it's the CH1 fixture. If all fixtures are set to Ch1, all RGB work good. If all are set to ch 5, 9 or 13) the B & G lights flicker. I've tried various chains of which is first, vs 2 vs 3rd, etc. I've changed out cables. I've changed refresh rate settings for the Interface down to 25ms. I do NOT have a DMX terminator, but will get one soon. I have another PC w/ WinXP on it that I used for the other fixtures, but don't have access to it right now - that's the only other thing I can swap out.
I've tried rebuilding the fixture file using various Strobe, Strobe, Intensity and LAMP settings. (But each of those act the same using different setups, so not sure if it's there.) I've tried mimicing a 9 ch fixture to skip some DMX channels during the setup.
I'm really at a loss - spent hours over days on this so finally coming here. Thanks!

Re: Weird!? LED Fixtures Flicker on GR & BL ch only
hi a flickering issue can be hard to solve as it can be differnt issues.
- DMX device (wrong baud rate, i combination with ledpars)
- Ledpar (wrong baud rate, i comination with DMX device)
- bad cables (but i dont think this is the issue)
or the ledpar could be bad as LEDs work with PWM and PWM is switching ON/OFF realy fast (flickering) this way you can DImm a led.
do you also have the flickering issue if the RGB channels are full on (255).
or maby you have a simple DMX controller and does the same issue apeare on the simple DMX controller.
