MIDI Triggering with a Roland TD10

Post by testylefty »

For all of you drummers out there, I have gotten the Roland TD10 to MIDI trigger my Chauvet 4-bar light fixtures through Freestyler. This is not as easy or clean as the Akai MPD18 but it does work. You will also need midi-ox and midi-yoke. Here are my instructions (I did copy a lot of this from somewhere else on the forum - just can't remember where so thanks to whoever started these instructions).

1. Download and install MIDI-OX (http://www.midiox.com)
2. Download and install MIDI yoke (http://www.midiox.com)
3. In MIDI-OX, go to Options then MIDI Devices and select:
4. MIDI Input: External MIDI device (USB2.0)
5. MIDI Output: MIDI Yoke 1
6. Go to Options then Data Mapping and the Translation Map window will open.
7. Click the "Insert" button and enter the following values (NoteOn):
8. Input Channel: Any
9. Input Event Type: NoteOn
10. Note Minimum Value = 1
11. Note Maximum Value = 127
12. Velocity Minimum Value = 1
13. Velocity Maximum Value = 127
14. Not Used Min and Max values: 127
15. Output Channel = Match Input
16. Output Event Type = NoteOn
17. Note Minimum Value = 1
18. Note Maximum Value = 127
19. Velocity Minimum Value = 127
20. Velocity Maximum Value = 127
21. Delay = 0
22. Use input value 2 (pull) = not checked
23. Use input value 1 (pull) = checked
24. Make sure checkbox “Turn Map On” is checked
25. Save file
26. In FreeStyler, go to Setup, click the External Control link, then click on MIDI Control
27. Input is set to “MIDI Yoke: 1”.
28. Output is set to “No Output”.
29. Click "Start", then click "Edit".
30. Select the function that you want to control, then push the appropriate button/pad. A number should fill in on the Note field. Repeat as necessary.
31. Click "Save".
