Pimped DMX Strobe?

Post by lexi »

Anyone out there using a pimped strobe?
http://www.hoelscher-hi.de/hendrik/engl ... strobe.htm

Have pimped a Stairville PS1500DMX, and sometime MC (microcontroller) is crashing. In that situation the strobe is not reacting to DMX nor stand alone mode working anymore. Repowering it doesn't help.
On reinserting original MC it's working fine and then when reinserting the pimped MC again it comes back to life.

Anyone facing same problems? Any ideas what's going wrong?

it's not really difficult, but lil understandings in electronics is advantageous :D

what you need:
  • Atmel ATmega8515-16 microcontroller (~ EUR 2.00)
an AVR programming interface with programming software
    the firmware from Hoelscher's homepage
For the AVR programmer I'm using the STK500 from Atmel (~ EUR 80.00) which is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and comes with software. If u just wanna program the chip and do not plan to do own developements there are some programmers for the PC's parallel port (either get one for few buck or build one urself). I've never used one of those myself but Mr. GOOGLE knows more about it -lol-

BTW: have a colleague who's using one of those, so can ask him to give some tips ;)

once the chip is programmed, just replace the original MC in the strobe with the programmed one. They are different MC's but pin-compatible, only pin 9 (reset) has to be bent up on the new MC before inserting it.

voila - thats all
