Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
I am very new to the Freestyler Fixture Creator. Please don't chew me out if I sound dumb. I just got a new light called the Pass Scan 250 and I have been having troubles. I vaguely know how to use the fixture creator but I think I got most things right. My main problem is the fixture not responding when I use my fixture file in Freestyler. I also have two American Dj Dj Spot 250's and two Chauvet Intimidator 2.0's so I know that it's not my Velleman DMX Interface. If you need any more information, just ask.I attached the Pass Scan 250 manual and my current fixture file.

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
2 things I can see of are incorrect in your fixture file. But thats not the problem source of the fixture not responding.
The pan & tilt range should be 255. not p170/t110. I can see where you get those values from, but that values are the degrees (angle) that the mirror can move - those 170 (and 110) are spread over dmx values 0...255. (unless otherwise documented, its not, so the range should be 255).
You need to test somewhat further:
1. Make sure you adressed the fixture correctly - is it a dip-switch adress method? Re-check if you did understand it correctly. Tell us how, what the adress should be and post a picture of the dip-switch.
2. Add your fixture to your freestyler setup after making sure your Velleman interface is working.
3. Some fixtures have multiple modes, each mode having its own DMX channel descriptions. Check if its in the correct mode.
4. Select the fixture and move _all_ sliders on the right side on your screen from 0 to 255. See if _something_ moves or happens. (as I'm thinking your channel information may be faulty)
5. Do this test with only this fixture connected in your DMX chain and with other fixtures connected in your DMX chain. Make sure they are working.
6. At all times have a look at the show output window. Here you'll see FreeStyler's values to the DMX chain. They should be the value you are setting.
If all this does'nt make the fixture do anything, something 'bad' is going wrong. Search deeper, try harder.
Most of the time people asking here when fixture's does'nt respond its one of these things:
1. Did'nt address the fixture correctly because they did'nt understand the dip-switch config too good.
2. Used bad cabling, or should have been using phase inverted cable.
3. Their DMX interface did'nt work because of a driver issue.
4. FreeStyler was set to Virtual interface instead of real interface.
5. And I'm forgetting few here...
I googled the fixture:
http://shop.nwlightingfx.com/pro.duct.sc?productId=4
It says here its a 7 channel fixture?
Here's the manual: http://www.nwlightingfx.com/uploads/Pas ... manual.pdf
I see lots of differences. You should re-check.

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
When I bought the fixture, the manufacturer said the DMX protocol has been updated and they E-mailed me the new version of it (the one that I attached to my previous post). After some testing I have figured out that my Velleman does work because I can flawlessly control my other fixtures. Moving all of the sliders still gets me no response. I will attach a picture of my dip switches. That might be the problem.

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
I think we found the problem. The dipswitches says that the upper position is on. In the picture in FS the swith is on if it is down. So you have to invert the positions of all your dip switches.
Again this is a typical mistake by just copying what the picture shows. If you understand how dip switches work, you will probably not again make this mistake

Sadly, we've not found the problem. After inverting my dip switches, the light still does not respond at all.

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
I found a window in Freestyler called the "output" window. It shows the values that it is giving out. I noticed when I moved the sliders, the values in the output window change but the actual light does nothing. Does this mean that my fixture is faulty?
Here is a video I made showing exactly what it does.

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
This could be a polarity problem. Ive looked through a user manual for this but it does not say if the dmx needs to be pin3+ or pin2+.
The AMDJ products will be pin3+ and so will the vellaman device. Its worth making up a convertor cable to test the theory.
Does not matter which end you change, male or female, just make sure you label this cable so you know its special. Just bust out your soldering iron and....

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
I don't think that it's a polarity problem. If I turn on all of the dip switches on it and pan/tilt my DJ Spot 250 (patched to channel 1), The Pass Scan will change and rotate it's gobos. I have tried many things and have still not gotten to actually "control" my Pass Scan. Thanks for all of the help so far but I still haven't gotten it to work. any other ideas?
EDIT: I got the fixture to go into test mode. The light itself works perfectly fine so it has something to do with my Freestyler setup or some other thing.

You should not dismiss this. Do you understand what is meant here? If you need me to explain it better then I will.

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
Please try to think for yourself. Most likely DIP 10 is'nt a DMX channel dipswitch.Watertower wrote:Sadly, we've not found the problem. After inverting my dip switches, the light still does not respond at all.
Most common 1 to 9 are, and 10 does something else, like enabling or disabling DMX input or some factory preset demo mode.
So, inverting all dipswitches, could be wrong. Try dip 10 in the other state. Sadly enough that part is not documented in the manual.
Some fixtures need a reboot for the adress to take effect.
If it does'nt work out, revert back to nothing, clear your FreeStyler setup. Set de fixture to channel 1 (factory initial value), add the fixture in FS on channel 1 and retry.
Does'nt work? Maybe a polarity issue.

Re: Pass Scan 250 Fixture Creator Stall
Thank you! It turns out that dip 10 is blackout! My light works now except for a few minor problems in the fixture that I can easily iron out myself. Thanks again for all of the help! Once again, I apologize for my stupidity.

Great!
If you learned something today, there's no need to apologise. If you did'nt learn something, you do.
I take it you did learn something today. Thats why there are forums.
Keep up the good work, hope to see you back someday from the other side.
