Never use duct tape its horrible stuff, hard to tear, impossible to get on cables and incredibly sticky.
Gaffers Tape all the way, its a cloth based tape, easier to tare for when you need thinner strips, easy to remove and a lot less sticky (there are different grades).

Also if your tiered of cables getting tangled buy some doubled sided velcro.

Coil your cables using the over under technique and when your done velcro the coil together. Alternatively iv used shoe laces tied to the cable ends and then tied in a bow around the coil.

Allways coil cables, never wrap them round your arm, tie them in a bow, wrap around its self. It damages the cable, puts nasty kinks in it and never lays flat again. If you coil your cable using the over under method your cables will never tangle will allways lie flat and will last longer.

Remember without cables you cant do your job!

Lol have used that tape last thursday for taping some cloth to a table looked kinda funny with the black and yellow couldn't find the gaffer
