collection of thoughts

Post by SilentShaddow »

Or probably a collection of ones that have been mentioned alot. but still,

Fanning/Delay/Spread,
some way of altering the movements such that each light can be positioned at different points in the movement, ie if you had 4 lights they could be at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 or they could all be at 12:00.

Time related editor,
Where you can create chases abit like those computer programs where you could drag small clips of music on to the screen, something like that would be great, like if you selected the 'clip' then it would show it to you in the visuliser and you could play through and stuff.
That was alot clearer worded in my head.

Shapes,
but for other effects like a dimmer pulse or rainbow scroll or even preprogrammed chases that are likely to be used all the time so they can look smoother and nicer. Some effects are hard to do without as replicating the effect is impossible.

Palletes,
(I know theres a thread) where you can built locations so that if you move from venue to venue then you can just alter the locations and not have to rebuild all of pan tilt in the entire sequence. But more importantly they should be fixture specific, ie they should remember which fixture they were programmed relative to, and one button press is able to control different lights, differently. A red button would turn any of the lights that are selected red regardless of fixture even across different addressing whilst leaving the unselected fixtures unchanged.

Fanning - Implemented in the pan/tilt window.
Palletes - Available in the next beta, does kind what you said. (Global remembers all fixtures current attributes, Fixture remembers the current selected fixtures attributes, which can then be applied to selected fixtures.
but currently only works when programming, I have offtern thought about this as well maybe a live pallete could be created and a third type of pallet which acted like the fixture pallete but allowed multiple types of fixtures like the global pallete does. (Beta testers will know what i mean) .
Pre programmed chases, look at the dmx 400 for the others such as rainbow (could you please exspand on this?)
Time related editor, Would be a great feature and has been suggested before but the work to do this would be massive as can be very complicated.

Not the thing that im thinking off, (I think)

What I think your refering to is the spreading out, with pan and tilt fanning on the right? 2 columns and a button at the bottom.

What im try to put forward is like imagine 4 movers, running a square shape, what freestyler does at the moment is to move each light around the same point ie all at top left, the all to top right, etc. what im after is where each light is at a different corner, so that they remain evenly distributed round the square.

Rotate the shape 90'
would that accomplish your desired output?

How would that make me lazy? The square shapes, fine they are a little annoying to make so they have that effect but I just really used that as an example. The shapes that im really after are a similar kind of spread effect across circles and spirls and pan/tilt swings. Try building those effects and then saying that we are lazy!

I was going to ask for the same feature. I have 4 chauvet intimidators set up to run in a circle motion and i could only get them to do the same chase. Rotating the shape is something i never thought of!!! I feel kinda stupid now! oh well, i can't wait to set up the rig and try it out now.

lol
thanks matt!

<time passes as life distracts me>

But im back, Id just like to make a follow up point, that whilst your argument is fine for smaller numbers of lights. Id at somepoint like to be able to run bigger shows off the software containing many fixtures, many more than just 4, maybe 16 or 20 moving heads all at once, the most time effective and in my small oppinion a much smoother nicer way of doing it. Also it was the same with other things like dimmer effects and colour effects, dimmer effects across 4 intelligent lights or a small number of generics wouldnt look that good but again across a large number of MH. Colour/Iris/Dimmer/Gobo/Gobo Function/etc perferably with a thingy to enable the building of the effect ourselves...

Its just a suggestion mind, im very grateful for the use of the software, fits very nicely with my fixing/testing rig but id like to be able to use it for something more...

Also I dont quite get the framing interface, I guess its not that relevent as I question anybody using mac 2000 probably wouldnt be using freestyler, but still.

Also the CMY interface keeps disappearing for some of the fixtures

If there was away to invert pan/tilt in a chase it would be easy to do what you want. Maybe this feature could be added later :)

Basically you would be able to invert pan or tilt on odd fixtures, or even fixtures and this would be saved in the chase file. :geek:
