Re: sound-to-light addons or something needed

Here's my idea:

In FS 24 blackout groups can be controlled externally, so in theory S2L could blackout a configured blackout group 1...24.
Looking at it this way, its a nice add on in S2L. Just configure a blackout group to blackout when no beat is detected.

The only thing I can't find for some reason is how I can define a blackout group in FS? Anyone? :)

well the reason why I dropped this thread with this question, is because I think it would be extremely cool to have that function in FS, because, in a club environment or live show, it's getting more automated then, and follows the music, and that's nice, it's a must to have funtion, it can make a huge impression on the audience, yes groups will be needed. If my idea is going to be shot down, as a stupid addon function, then I dont know anymore, then S2L was also a wast of time....and I personally love that S2L, it's better then the old original version that killed a quad core, lol

just a guess: make groups for you lights, and then try to activate the "blackout group xx" feature

Hi all

In the next version the S2L functions are improved and the blackout option is not a bad idea to complete these improvements.
I will try to add this function for the next release.

Best regards

blackout groups are not definable however you can black out a group.
Sorry for being cryptic. The fixtures are automatically grouped when added by fixture. you can edit this by going to edit-> group.

the blackout Group function then applies to these groups in order.

I can't seem to make it work the way that I had in mind, if I click on Sound to light button in FS, I get S2L module and a smaller box with the following settings, (Jump to next step (CUE, ....) and then (Random DMX value) and if I click on that then I see the Blackout function, well I always use the (Jump to next step (CUE, ....) function because, I make my own 200 step program and want them to be put on blackout after X amount of time, I've made a screen shot of my program with the example of tick box where I thought I might be cool to have the blackout option, it's the pink dots next to "disable all fades" button, the only concern that I have is, where will the x amount of time option be then, because that needs a separate dialog box basically :?

The image is attached in a zip file, because I can't post it just like jpeg, because of some height and width restrictions

Contact Raph and discribe the issue. maybe he will change the blackout feature to what you want.. What you wrote about selecting which line in the cue windows should be blackouted sound like a good idea.

Currently the blackout function only works in the random mode (only the fixtures who react to sound).
Implementing it per cue isn't that easy to do, a global blackout can be added without a lot of work (fixtures could be excluded with the "ignore blackout" setting)

Raph
I understand, I also think that it might be difficult to do, but at least I have showed you my idea, to improve FS, I personally can't se a use for "random mode " I always use cue's

So lets go back to S2L then:
If I implement the blackout function there with this parameters:
- A choosable blackout group
- A time (in msec) when no beat is detected to send the blackout command to FS
So, if you set S2L to blackout group 1 after 2000 msec, then if there is no beat detected for 2 seconds, all the light in that group are blacked out.
Then, if the beat resumes the blackout is aborted.

Would that be good?

does this mean you can use this to flash some fixtures on every beat (if you set the time really low, like 100msec)?

In theory: yes, it does.

Now I'm starting to wonder why I created the beat flash function... Dude... ;)

I would like this feature better than the beat flash feature you already made, no offence (don't want to annoy yo any more.. to night at least ;) )
reason: I like you can have a sequence whit movements or colorchasers (more than one step) and you can control it from the cue window or SM. you do that with a override button... the best thing however, would be to configure each sequence to a flash sequence or not... but thats waaaaaaaay more complicated

Re: sound-to-light addons or something needed

ok, I have stumbled upon someone awesome, my own blackout after for example 1000ms, but the down side is, there is only one place to specify the time for that the Flash, this is meant for a strobe, but I used it for my laser, auto blackout, so my laser is now on blackout mode after 1000ms, here is the problem, we need more setting boxes to change time, one for strobes and another for normal blackout light, in the S2L module...
and the other problem is, it only does 1 step in those mode, because it was meant for a strobe..... :?

Now my idea is to have 2 time setting boxes in the S2L module
so by this method to have 2 time boxes in the beat flash section, we can use one for strobe, and the other one for light blackout, and to get that blackout working, I think, by using a override button with a light on, and then put the button on flash mode.... so if no beat detected, for x amount time, the light go out....until next beat

So there is my master plan, I have made a example with paint with a screenshot of S2L module

ok, but it was 4am, then I dropped my idea, but just check it out, I personally don't like the group thing, because I can't do anything with a darn group, I understand that you can only use groups for manually blackout of active something?????

add the fixtures to a group you want to blackout when there is no beat.. if remco_k implements the feature in S2L it will blackout this group of fixtures when there is no beat.
