Do they all run the exact same protocol and can you mix and match between different brands without any problems?

Well, from my experience ones from American dj or Chauvet seem to be brand specific and don't talk to each other. I use the ones from Donner (silver stick with an antenna), and have used lixada ones as well that were rechargeable and they work together. Someone else may have a different experience than me.
