Hi,

I've been using that setup for about a year....though mostly for my iPhone not iPad. Not sure what kind of help you're looking for since what you have looks pretty nice so far. I'm a musician pretending to be a sound guy who owns some lights, if you know what I mean, so I'm not too experienced with what lights are supposed to be able to do.... ;)

My lighting rig is pretty simple, using it for concerts like yourself....4 each of Chauvet Slimpar Pro wash lights (RGBA's, VW's and Tri's) so no moving fixtures, gobos or anything like that. I'm using the RGBA's and VW's on bars out front and the Tri's for uplighting backgrounds or sometimes on bars behind musicians (more of a rock setup I guess).

My TouchOSC controller controls lights in groups and individually, just a manual channel control for intensity and colour (I'm not too interested in strobe, for example), and I've just started experimenting with adding cue buttons and override buttons to create some movement. Using override buttons to turn off some of the front washes when someone in the band has a solo, or the singer starts the song, things like that. Using cue buttons to make the back Tri's change colour to the beat when they're up on bars behind the band....

The biggest trouble I've had is getting rtpMIDI to talk to my iPhone consistently. Sometimes I go to a gig and I just can't get control of the software, other times it works perfectly. That's where the black magic is for me I guess..... I only have so much time to troubleshoot things before a show, it would be better if I had more confidence in it. I've tried with an HP netbook running Windows 7 Starter and also VMWare running Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro. I think I have better luck with the Macbook Pro but sometimes VMWare makes the machine run really hot, and since I'm running a remote software for my Presonus mixer, controlled by iPad, I worry about VMWare somehow bringing down the whole show....

Cheers,

...Greg

Hey Buttza,

Just happened to find this awesomeness and couldn't believe my luck .. :-)

Even as a newbie, I knew there'd be a way to do this and someone smarter & more dedicated would figure it out .. just disappointed to find you're links no longer 'link' .. are these instructions still available? and/or am I missing something?

Thanks & Cheers,

John e Mac

Hey Buttza,

Thanks for reposting .. however, layout files extract as XML document not a .touchosc (TouchOSC seemingly doesn't recognise XML? - which kind of doesn't make sense!?) and despite a look around can't see any way of importing, copy-paste, converting .. am I being a 'total newb' and missing something really simple?

Sorry for the pesky '20 questions' .. it all seemed so easy :-)

Cheers,

John E Mac

oops forgot to log in and lost a draft :-(

short version .. probably just as well .. managed to get iPad up and running by reverting to iMac for setup, looks great BTW .. but can't get FS to see TouchOSCbridge?

I get a Roland midi driver in the FS output menu, which is in the PC's sound, gaming controllers folder as well as drivers for a Nerd's LoopBe1 virtual midi driver I installed (& didn't help :-(, but the Bome's midi driver, I assumed needed for TouchOSCbridge? is unrecognised in the system devices folder ..

I also looked at another thread viewtopic.php?f=38&t=5193&start=10&hilit=touchosc+midi .. on midi control but, still no luck ..

I've reinstalled & restarted to no avail and open to any suggestions ..

Thanks again and cheers,

John E Mac

Hi,

Make sure that TouchOSC is running in the background before you open FS. Also restart computer after the TouchOSC Bridge Install.

You will need to Open Freestyler then go into Freestyler setup. Under external control select midi. At the top of the list there should be Input output options.
fs_midi_options.jpg
Also check firewall settings too. :)

Are you running the latest version of Freestyler?

Thanks.

Robert.

I have just realised that the Midi.fms file I included will no longer work with the FSDMX 3.5.6 so I am in the process of updating it. I will push the update through by Friday. Thanks. :fs:

I get a Java error everytime I try and run the OSC software. My Java says it is up to date.

I had that error too. Check you are running the correct Java Version. I noticed it the other day. If you are running 64 Bit you will need the 64 Bit version. That fixed it for me. :) If you auto update JVM it will download the wrong one by default. :) Let me know how you go. :)

Hey Buttza, thanks for setting this up! Works like a charm - well sort of.

I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why it wasn't working. I could see in the Midi Setup that the note was being received by Freestyler, but nothing was happening.

I had to go into the Options and select "Ignore Midi Channel" in order to get anything to work... not sure if this will cause issues later, or if I missed some step. Any ideas here?

I think I mapped the Midi channel to use 16 in Touch OSC by default. Try setting the midi channel to 16 in Freestyler Midi Commands. :)

Thanks!

One other question, and it likely comes down to me not fully understanding the TouchOSC Editor.

I've been tinkering with your layout. I added a Tap Sync button to the Performance Tab so that I can easily sync my sequences to the music. But I was looking at the buttons on the Override Buttons tab, and most of them don't seem to have a Midi Note associated with them. How do they work?

Yeah they should work. I will check the midi to check if they are in there. It may need to be updated for the X2 version. :) I haven't updated for that so I will do it this week. :) Cheers for the heads up. :)

I can add a tap sync button to it as well if you want? I forgot about that function. :)
