Messy NJD NJ165 iStrobe

I have just bought an NJD NJ165 iStrobe. It is a 5 channel unit, with 2 separate LED strobe lights. NJD don't seem to have thought very hard about how to arrange the DMX channels.
Channel 5 sets the mode:
  • Normal strobe light, LEDs controlled independently.
  • Normal strobe light, LEDs controlled simultaneously.
  • 4 different pre-programmed patterns.
  • 2 different sound activated patterns.
In the Independent mode channels 1-4 control: LED 1 brightness; LED 1 speed; LED 2 brightness; LED 2 speed.
In the simultaneous mode channels 1-2 control: LED 1+2 brightness; LED 1+2 speed.
OK so far … I can do something and ignore channels 3 and 4.

But: for the 5 different pattern modes you only have control of speed, which is set by Channel 1. So depending on Mode, Ch1 has different functions.

So far I've created 8 macros for the Modes: Independent, Simultaneous, P1, P2, P3, P4, Sound 1, Sound 2 - and four Custom Sliders for Ch1- 4. As there isn't much room for text on the sliders - and Ch1 changes function depending on mode - it looks messy.

Any ideas how to make this neater?

Thanks,
Red.

Unless you are mixing modes during a performance would 2 (or more) different fixture files help?

thanks Rod - it might be better to have an extra fixture file - either way its still a bit of a botch up!

A bit. I have seen several instruments that have multiple functions. Without basically a complete redesign they are a bit problematic to use easily in Freestyler. I suspect other software also struggles but I lack knowledge of other lighting software.
