Tomshine Spider Light 8x3w Have tried my best. Help?

Post by damonoliver »

I purchased a couple Tomshine 8x3w spider lights. My first time buying a chinese basically no-name light. I probably won't do it again! I tried to create a fixture based on the manual, and used other spider fixtures that have been uploaded here as a guide. The manual for this one is different than the UKing one, and the other no-names I've seen posted here. I'm uploading my attempt at creation and a photo of the manual's channel section. I'd like to use this as 15 channel... Can anyone help me? I've got a show this weekend and would love to get these added to my truss. Thanks for any assistance!

Hey damonoliver, a photo in the right direction and better quality would help an increase the chance of you getting an answer. ;-) This is very hard to read.

Sometimes there are changes in the firmware of these cheap China fixtures. Then you have to contact the seller or producer to get an updated DMX table.

If that's not possible, you'll have to find the right DMX values by yourself:
  • Create a new fixture file in FixtureCreator with 15 channels with no further configuration, just an empty 15 channel fixture file. FixtureCreator will complain if some crucial information is missing you'll have to enter before saving.
  • Add the fixture (using the right DMX address of course) in FreeStyler, mark it and use the faders in the right corner to skip through the values (if the fader collapsing from time to time is unwanted, you can activate the option "automatically expand faders" in FreeStyler Setup, Preferences, Extra Options).
  • First try to find the right channels for dimmer (intensity), if needed shutter, lamp, then colors and other important features of the fixture you'll need to confirm the function of the other channels.
  • If you verified the function of a channel or found the right channel different from the manual, insert/correct it in the FixtureCreator, save the fixture again (the name stays the same) and reload it in FreeStyler with right click "Reload fixture".
  • You can fine tune / find the right values if you click into one of the channels and use numpad (+) and (-) to increase and decrease the channel's value by 1.
  • Repeat until you found out every channel's function and the right values for different features / macros. :-)

Someone posted a fixture file for a similar fixture. Different wattage and channel quantity, but maybe you can adjust it for your needs: viewtopic.php?f=73&t=8214
