USB interface looses connection when shape tool is open

When I open the shape tool for my moving heads the usb connection appears to randomly disconnect and reconnect. The movement of the heads will stop but the lights do not react as if the dmx was unpluged they just freeze. After a few seconds they will resume but when they do my computer makes the usb device connect/disconnect sound. This will continue on and off at random intervals for as long as I am using the tool. I have tried with just the interface plugged in without any fixtures connected and get the same results. I am using a Lixada Udmx dongle. Any ideas?
