SOLVED: Submaster faders control Intensity or Speed !?

Post by Kohlekocher »

Hello and happy new year to everybody first of all! :-) It's my first post, so :fs:

So there is one thing that I came across which leaves me puzzled and why I'm opening this thread: It is about the Submaster faders which behave strange. Normally these control the intensity, as it is documented in the Wiki - which is why we should set them to the desired level, in order to get an output from our assigned sequences/cues.

In my case: I just realized that the submaster faders in my Freestyler have changed - the offer now intensity or speed alternating. You can see in the screenshots attached how it looks. One is blue (intensity) the other is yellow (speed).

How could that be? Is something wrong? Hidden feature?

I found no hints about this in this forum or in the wiki. I only found the wiki entry that described how you can change the behavior of the faders by creating a "dummy" fixture.

The problem is the following:
If I assign sequences to those with "speed" faders, the output does not work. Even though the dimmer was part of the sequences with 100%. I think this might have to do with the fact that the "intensity" fader is missing in those columns. Now I wonder how I could change or influence those slider settings.

Two cents about my setup: I have basically RGB lights which are part of a LED-Bar - I have first added them with Segments, but learned then that it is not the most comfortable way to create sequences - hence I also added them in another Zone (to save screen space) as individual fixtures (3 channels each for RGB) and manually assigned the same channels - not sure whether this could have an impact on the submaster faders?

Would be great if anybody could shed some light into this

Best regards from Germany!

Edit: I attached screenshots in Dark Theme and Light Theme - as I experienced this after changing to Dark Theme and wanted to ensure it is independent from that...

Hi all,

I solved it: I found out if you right-click into the submaster list, you can choose "Submaster fader controls speed" in the menu - if this is checked, the fader is a speed fader. It is that simple.

Still wondering how this got changed in the first place - but at least now I learned how to work with it :-)
Seems this feature is not yet documented anywhere?

Maybe this helps someone in the future...

Best regards!

Thank you for the update. After reading your posts I saw the same thing in my system. I often set up sub-masters just before a concert. Running into this then would not have been a good thing.
