artnet set up

I am trying to follow this instructable:
http://www.instructables.com/id/ESP8266-Artnet-to-DMX/

So far I have been successful in loading the code and being able to access the settings. I have however tried all manner of setting with artnet, and sub net, etc.
I am finally successful in that when i start freestyler I believe that I am sending data to the chip, but when i measure the output is is not in DMX format.

I am desperately hoping that someone else has built this node and could help walk me through the set up.
