Basic on off Switch control of Freestyler

Post by Gainward »

We have used Freestyler here at our church for years. I love the product it works great for us.

We have a PC upstairs in the tech booth that runs the lights. Several people have complained about having to walk upstairs to turn on the house lights when none of the tech team is here, and these same people are exceptionally weak PC users who struggle to launch a software and click a button. That sounds horrible but it is the truth.

I am trying to come up with a solution where I can put a switch or a small very simple device downstairs that will allow them to control just the house lights in an on/off config.

I am hoping someone here has already been down this road and will give me a map

Two methods,

MIDI - Use a footswitch via midi to trigger an override that controls your house lights.

DMX merger and an anyScene control unit - The scene control has basic push-button scenes, the DMX merger will allow the scene control to operate the lights when Freestyler is switched off

the MIDI footswitch sounds like a pretty good solution, although I have never used MIDI for anything at all so it will take some research.

Maybe they could use the Freestyler DMX app on Android?

It's the best remote control for Freestyler there is, you can just use the fade in/out button to turn the lights on and off (or use the blackout button)

You can run the app on a phone or tablet connected to the network (you can even run it on WAN so you can control the lights anywhere)
You could buy one or use an old one and use it as a dedicated control panel.
You could also let the people download the app but then multiple people have to install it.
