Midi <-> DMX Values

Post by cirrus »

Hi,

I have a small problem with my BCF 2000 and Freestyler.
In case I assign a BCF fader to a function in freestyler, let's say intensity channel, I can push the fader to maximum, sending MIDI note 127, and freestyler puts the DMX channel output to 254 where the max is 255.
Any clues why this is happening to me?

Thanks for any support on this.

Cheers!
Dominik

im not realy sure why its happening, you may want to post a bug report.

Is the BCF actually sending 127, i know my bcf can be inaccurate to which actual position its in.

but does it really matter? fixtures are designed to accommodate this inaccuracy. all fixture attributes are accessed via DMX Value ranges. and i bet there is no movement on pan tilt from 254 and 255.
I can almost guarantee that with a midi fader you will never hit the same value dead on every time.

I agree with mattotone.. SOmetimes i hit 255 with my faders on the BCF2000, sometimes I dont... and you will have this "issue" as longe you have to scale 128 (127+0) midi values to 256 (255+0) DMX values.

But as mattotone said,, its not something which will affect the control of freestyler nor the connected fixtures.

@Mattotone... Remember we have the Freestyler Bug Tracker to report issues in, and not the old bug report form you posted

Hi,
thanks for the quick reply. Maybe I'm too pedantic ;)
With a midi monitor I can actually see that the BCF sends reliable a 127 Midi note and Freestyler sends in 99% of the cases a 254 DMX value, I was just wondering if I have configuration or setup error on my side.

I will check it with my Scans (SCX 600 from Martin) tomorrow and let you know if there's any difference on the physical device between a 254 and a 255 DMX value.

Don't get me wrong, I really love this software and respect the work & effort you spend on it, great stuff!

Cheers
Dominik
