3 DMX Signals Into 1 Output

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone would know if you can merge 3 DMX signals into 1 output?? I know you can merge 2 signals to 1 output using a DMX merger, but I'm wanting 3 signals to 1 output? Is it possible to use 2 mergers together to get it to work or would I loose signal strength?

I'm wanting to merge 2 DMX lighting consoles and a Laptop running DMX software to 1 output from FOH to my lighting rig with no issues?

Any ideas or help?
Thanks :)

Maybe this is a stupid question but when you are merging signals. Are you then trying to have more control units controlling the same fixture.
If so, isn't that a bit dangerous and then 3 of them.

I don't think you need to think of loosing signal strength
The merger are normally an active device meaning it has one output which is buffered.
So you should be able to add more od them in serial without any problem.

The splitters I use have a merge and a backup function.
It makes a retiming of the signals. I also don't think that will give you any problems.

What he said...

But check manuals to make sure it is user configurable.
Otherwise you could theoretically have one device take 256 channels from A, merged with 256 from B (as 257-512 or whatever) but then your second splitter overwriting B values with values of C, leaving you with only 2 merged channels.
Others might use LTP (latest takes precedence), or HTP (highest takes precedence) per channel across all inputs, which means your dmx sources need to able to be set to use a specific range.
Here's an example of a 3 into 1 that gives you the choice http://www.elmvideotechnology.com/DMX-5 ... er-DMX.htm
I think most decent ones these days are, but it don't hurt to check manual or ask the question first.

Nope, I'm not controlling the same fixture by different units. Thanks for the help guys

:D Then why not use 3 cables one for each controller and fixture set.

That's the other option I have which I think will be the better one to go with. I'll be sure to post pictures of the rig and what I choose to do closer to the event. Thanks again guys. :)
