Something to watch out for...the mystery DMX channel

Post by Kings »

So I own a 11 channel SC500 RGB laser and decided to buy another one. I add it in line to the first laser and then use the next available DMX start address. I select both on the FS desktop and turn them on. But the beams of the new one keep turning on and off?

So after much experimentation with dongles, repatching etc I discover the fixture is in fact 12 channels, the last being a strobe channel. The user manual, the sales blurb and some other material on the web only mentions 11 channels...go figure.

So does that mean that both have a strobe channel then or just one of them? Interesting stuff, kings :)

Thanks for sharing with us! :)

Both have a strobe channel so if you select both on the FS desktop and pull up channel one (the control channel) on both lasers, the first laser will turn on and also strobe slowly at the same time (as you have engaged both channel one and also channel 12 without knowing it).

I see. Well interesting to know that companies don't do their job right and put it in the manual, oh well part of being a lighting techie  we have to be ready for these things i suppose

Manuals get revisions as firmware inside can be updated, warranting a new manual (look at Martins lights there's numerous manual revisions!) please provide the manufacturer of the light so I can investigate this and add the information to the DMX Wiki for all to see ;)

The manufacturer (the best I can tell) is LD:

I'll post a fixture profile when I next get a chance.
